A warm welcome to the Wilf Family Department of Politics at New York University. We are a thriving intellectual community devoted to the systematic analysis of political phenomena. The Department has almost 40 faculty spanning the frontiers of research in the field of Political Science. We serve over 550 students enrolled in our two undergraduate majors (Politics and International Relations), making us one of the largest undergraduate programs in the College of Arts and Science. Professor Melissa Schwartzberg has been awarded a 2024 Guggenheim Fellowship.

Professor Anna Harvey has been awarded a grant from the William T. Grant Foundation to support the Public Safety Lab's Prosecutorial Reform Initiative. This initiative will study how prosecutorial decision making impacts inequalities in outcomes. Anna will be working with Amanda Agan (Economics, Rutgers) and Jennifer Doleac (Economics, TAMU) on the project

Professor Sanford Gordon's article, "Association Between Medical Cannabis Laws and Opioid Overdose Mortality Has Reversed Over Time," co-authored with Chelsea L. Shover, Corey S. Davis, and Keith Humphreys, was named one of the Top 10 papers in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences for impact on public understanding of science and scientific inquiry. 

Professors Jonathan Nagler and Joshua Tucker's article, “Social Networks and Protest Participation: Evidence from 130 Million Twitter Users,”, co-authored with Jennifer Larson and Jonathan Ronen, won the 2024 American Journal of Political Science Best Article Award.

Professors Patrick Egan, Jonathan Nagler and Joshua Tucker's article "Who Leads? Who Follows? Measuring Issue Attention and Agenda Setting by Legislators and the Mass Public Using Social Media Data," co-authored by Pablo Barbera, Andreu Casas, Rich Bonneau, and John Jost, has been named one of the Most Influential American Political Science Review Articles published in 2024.

Professor Joshua Tucker testified before the House Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress on issues surrounding the use of social media by members of congress.

NYU has established the Center for Social Media and Politics, co-directed by Professors Joshua Tucker and 谷歌浏览器怎么上YouTube of the Politics Department, along with Richard Bonneau, Professor of Biology and Computer Science, which will examine the production, flow, and impact of social media content in the political sphere, as well as support research that uses social media data to study politics.  The center was the recent recipient of a $5 million grant from the Knight Foundation part of a general announcement about its investment in supporting the study of the impact of technology on democracy.

Professor Arthur Spirling, along with colleagues at NYU's Center for Data Sciences, have received a $3 million Research Traineeship Grant from the National Science Foundation to support FUTURE, an initiative to train fifty PhD students, including twenty funded trainees, from data science and other disciplines such as mathematics, computer science, physics, neuroscience, health sciences, psychology, and politics. An additional 145 MS or PhD students will engage in select courses and professional development opportunities offered through the project.
